Poodle Sizes are mainly three recognized by the American Kennel Club: Standard Poodle, Miniature Poodles and Toy Poodles.
Elegant and fancy Standard Poodle
This is a proud, gracious and noble dog of Poodle Sizes. It is very enjoyable and cheerful. It is the largest of all poodles and generally calmer and with less energy than the smaller sizes. They are the preferred size for show exhibitions.
Historian of breeds think they came from the German water retriever called Pudel, that is the name used in Germany until today.
They vary in sizes from 15 to 20 inches’ height, measured from the shoulders, and usually weight less than other dogs the same size. They come in many colors to choose from.
Their coat is very dense and curly. The hair grows very fast and allows the grooming to develop many styles and shapes. The fact they are non-shedding dogs make them very popular among children. They are also very sociable with other dogs.
Joyful and intelligent Miniature Poodle
This is an intelligent, joyful companion dog that can be trained to be very accommodating to its owner. They are comical and very clever. It is supposed to live with a family, since they need to be occupied most of the time.
It is seldom aggressive. A proper training at the beginning will set the rules of behavior among family members and children
The miniature poodle also known as “Caniche”, is very easy to train. It follows instructions and learns at a very fast pace.
This is a very sensitive breed, sometimes neurotic and timid, but very loyal. She is a great companion. She is very demanding and doesn’t stop until she achieves her demand.
Our Gingy, on the days of tropical storms in Florida with lots of thunder and lightning she will crawl on my husband’s lap looking for protection. The same goes for Fireworks. She seems not to like the Fourth of July too much.
Delightful and amusing Toy Poodle
The smallest of all recognized Poodle sizes, is a remarkably intelligent dog. It is sweet, cheerful, perky and lively, it likes to be with people. Delightful, very amusing and keen.
They are usually good with other pets and dogs. Unless given rules to follow and limits as to what they are and are not allowed to do, this breed will tend to bark a lot.
This little dog can be good with children, however is usually recommended for older children who know how to display leadership skills.
The Toy Poodle is a very elegant small dog It stands 10 inches or less from the shoulders to the floor. The average weight is between 6 and 9 pounds.
Many people love to keep them on their lap. If this is your case, then this poodle is the right choice.
The Teacup Poodle fits in the palm of your hand
Although not recognized officially, there is a sub-breed of the Toy Poodle, a little smaller and very cute. It is small the Teacup Poodle. It is remarkably intelligent. Highly responsive, it is said to be one of the most trainable breeds. Sweet, cheerful, perky and lively, it likes to be with people. She is delightful, very amusing and keen.
